- A former lawyer, he studied film at the University of California,and began his screen career as an actor. In 2000, he replaced the ill Polish director Maciej Dutkiewicz, who was shooting W pustyni i w puszczy (2001) (aka "In Desert and Wilderness") in South Africa.

- His screenplay for "A Reasonable Man" was a semifinalist script in both the 1993 and 1994 Academy Nicholl Fellowships. He directed, produced, and starred in the film which was released in 1999.
