- In October of 2006 Jacob and his father's business partner Mike Detjen were injured in a horrific accident involving a trebuchet, a medieval catapult, which was used to promote the Roloff's Farm. The trebutchet misfired while Jacob and Mike were cocking back and reloading the catapult sending the a 2000 pound counter weight crashing into them. Mike received over 200 stitches while Jacob received a dent in his skull which required surgery to relieve some of the pressure on his brain. Both Jacob and Mike have made a full recovery.
