- Her first name is taken from the the title character of the David Warner comedy film Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment (1966).
- Fairchild's mother, Martha Jane Hartt McClenny, was an English teacher at Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas (near Dallas). She died on May 4, 1999 following a stroke. Fairchild's younger sister is actress Cathryn Hartt.
- Fairchild graduated from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas in 1967.
- First professional job was acting as Faye Dunaway's double during the location filming of Bonnie and Clyde (1967). A native Texan, Morgan was later considered for the Cybill Shepherd role in The Last Picture Show (1971), competing alongside Sissy Spacek.
