He then went on to earn an MFA degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., further honing his craft.

After completing his education, Christopher began his professional career on stage, appearing in plays including “The Hostage.” His first TV appearance was in an episode of The Patty Duke Show in the early 196s. Soon after, he landed a recurring role as Private Lester Hummel in the hit TV series Gomer Pyle: USMC. However, it was his performance as Father Mulcahy in M*A*S*H that turned him into a household name.
Although M*A*S*H was the defining role of his career, Christopher continued to work on various shows after its 1983 conclusion.
